Año Nuevo en el Mar!! (V Región)

Año Nuevo en Valaparaíso y Viña del Mar (V Región) Estas fotos estan calentitas “recién sacadas del horno”, las tomé anoche mientras presenciaba la impecable presentación de juegos pirotécnicos que Valparaíso y Viña prepararon para este año. Siendo oriundo de la V región, he visto los fuegos artificiales de Valparaíso muchas veces y desde diferentes ubicaciones y todos los años me maravillo por igual. Porque como ustedes se imaginarán, no se trata solo de armar el show pirotécnico, también se trata de que ambas ciudades se preparan para recibir cientos de miles de personas provenientes de otras partes del país, principalmente de Santiago. Esto obviamente no es algo menor, hay que contar con acomodaciones para que los visitantes duerman, coman, estacionen sus autos, se desplacen por la ciudad, etc sin que ésto se convierta en una pesadilla y en mi humilde opinión estas dos ciudades han logrado convertirse en excelentes anfitrionas. Este año se lanzaron fuegos artificiales a lo largo de 21 kilómetros de borde costero, para ello se instalaron 18 puntos de tiro en los que se utilizaron 15 toneladas de explosivos y 18 mil bombas. Hablando de fotos, debo decirles que tomar fotos a fuegos artificiales no es fácil, hay que tener un trípode, una buena ubicación que cause que el encuadre sea fotográficamente interesante, hay que anticipar los tiempos de exposición de tal manera que no sólo las luces de los fuegos se vean bien, pero que también el entorno se distinga claramente. Por último hay que tratar que las fotos buenas se produzcan al principio del espectáculo donde aún no se ha acumulado demasiado humo y como si todo lo anterior fuese poco, todo esto hay que hacerlo rodeado de gente celebrando, gritando, empinando vasos, repartiendo abrazos…. Definitivamente una tarea mas bien difícil. En mi caso, creo que no me fue tan mal, quizás las fotos no son tan espectaculares por los fuegos mismos, pero creo que captan la atmosfera… y ustedes que piensan?? Si el próximo año están de vacaciones en estas fechas, venganse a la V región, lo van pasar muy bien….., sólo preocupense de estacionar el auto en un lugar seguro y dediquense a caminar y a tomar fotos, se van a acordar de mi…. New Year in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar (V Región) These pictures were just taken; I took them last night while I was admiring the impeccable fireworks presentation that Valparaiso and Viña put together for this year. Being born and raised in the V region, I have seen Valparaíso fireworks many times from different locations and every single year I am equally amazed. As you may imagine this event is not just about putting together a fireworks show, it also about being prepared to receive hundred of thousands of visitors from different parts of the country, specially from Santiago. Obviously this is not a minor task; there must be lodging accommodations, restaurants, parking areas, vehicle traffic control, etc to avoid turning these activities into a nightmare… in my humble opinion these two cities have achieved that stage becoming excellent hosts. This year the fireworks were fired along the 21 kilometers of the coastline. There were 18 firing points; they utilized 15 tons of explosives and 18 thousand bombs. Speaking of pictures, I have to say that taking fireworks pictures is not an easy task. You need a good sturdy tripod, a good location that helps creating a nice image, you have to predict the exposure time in such a way that not only the fireworks light will look OK, but also the light of the details of the surrounding area. Finally, good pictures have to be taken at the beginning of the show, before the smoke contaminates the environment... and…if all above was not enough, everything has to be done having people around you, celebrating, screaming, drinking champagne, hugging everyone… definitively not an easy task. In my case I think I didn’t do that bad, the pictures aren’t great, but at least they capture the atmosphere… what do you guys think?? If next year you are taking vacations around this date, come to the V región, you will have a very good time…., just make sure to park your car in a safe place and start walking and taking pictures…. Iglesias de Andacollo (Andacollo, IV Region)

Iglesias de Andacollo (IV Región) Algo que mi esposa y yo hacemos en forma habitual, es visitar Andacollo, que se encuentra a unos 70 kilómetros al Sur de La Serena, en la Cordillera de la Costa. Hasta donde me he podido dar cuenta, en Andacollo la gente se gana la vida trabajando principalmente en la extracción artesanal del oro, (aunque hace algunos años atrás se instaló una moderna empresa minera que se dedica a la explotación en gran escala), en la modalidad artesanal, el pirquinero cava un hoyo y extrae las rocas que contienen el oro usando solo herramientas manuales… Los andacollinos son muy devotos, ellos veneran a la Virgen María en su forma de Virgen de Andacollo, el pueblo tiene dos iglesias muy antiguas que son visitadas cada año por miles de peregrinos, famosas son sus dos fiestas, una en Ocutbre y la otra en Diciembre. Andacollo es mágico, es un lugar que inspira mucha paz, es -yo diría- un pueblo amistoso, tranquilo. En un Sábado cualquiera se congregan en Andacollo variadas tradiciones religiosas chilenas, aquéllas que nos identifican y nos modelan como país y como sociedad. Gente asistiendo a misa, rezando el rosario, confesándose, comulgando, bautizando a sus hijos, llegando emperifollados a casarse, pagando mandas o pidiéndole favores a la virgencita…. Esta vez les presento varias fotos que tomé un sábado en la tarde y que espero, muestren lo que he descrito mas arriba, además, ojalá contribuyan a promover el espíritu Navidenio ya que como se darán cuenta, fueron tomadas en el mes de Diciembre… Si están en La Serena y les entra la curiosidad, anímense y péguense el viajecito de unos cuantos kilometros cerro arriba…., no se arrepentirá El Templo Chico Construido en el año 1772. En esta iglesia permanece la Virgen del Rosario de Andacollo durante el año. Tiene un gran altar con arreglos florales y un arco de plata donde se ubica la Imagen de la Virgen. La Iglesia Grande En el costado norte de la plaza se encuentra la Basílica Menor que fue construida en 1893. Esta obra arquitectónica es orgullo de los andacollinos y fue diseñada por el arquitecto Eusebio Chelly. Fue declarada monumento nacional en 1981. Se levantó por motivos de espacio debido a la enorme cantidad de fieles que cada año llegan a las fiestas religiosas. De estilo romano bizantino, sus proporciones son extraordinarias: mide 70 metros de largo y 30 metros de ancho. Sus torres gemelas llegan a los 50 metros y su cúpula alcanza a los 45 metros. El altar principal fue fabricado en París. Temples in Andacollo (IV Región) An activity that my wife and I do regularly is to visit Andacollo. Is a 70 kilometers drive south of La Serena, inland, toward the mountains of “Cordillera de la Costa”. Andacollo is a small town, people that live there work primarily on gold mining, not the industrialized mining business -although there is a big modern mine in the town suburbs- Those who perform the job the primitive way dig a hole and manually extract the rocks that contain the gold using only hand tools!!! People in Andacollo are very religious, they worship Virgin Mary in the form of Virgin of Andacollo. The town has two huge very old temples, that are visited by millions of pilgrims throughout the year and during the Virgin celebrations in October and December. Andacollo is magic, inspires peace, is a friendly and quite town. In an ordinary Saturday evening in Andacollo, it is possible to find many Chilean religious traditions happening at the same time, those traditions that shape and portrait us as a country, as a society…. People going to mass, praying the rosary, getting married, baptizing their children… having confession, having communion, thank giving the Virgin, seeking for strength from the Virgin, etc. This time I am presenting several pictures that attempt to briefly show what I just wrote, I hope you enjoy them, I also hope they will contribute to the Christmas spirit…. Virgin Rosario de Andacollo is kept in this temple. It has a large altar decorated with flowers. The virgin is on display underneath the silver arch built for that purpose. The Big Temple At the northern side of the square locates the basilica menor. I was built in 1893 to provide more space to receive the pilgrims that every year come to town to worship the virgin during the religious celebrations. It was declared national monument in 1981. Designed by Eusebio Chelly, its dimensions are 70 meters length, 30 meters width, with 2 towers 50 meters tall plus a 45 meters tall cupola.
